What is BMI?
Body Mass Index, or BMI as it is commonly known, is used to determine a persons healthy weight range. It is based on height and weight and the formula used to calculate it is:

Below 18.5 | Underweight |
18.5 - 24.9 | Healthy weight |
25 - 29.9 | Overweight |
30 - 34.9 | Obese |
35 - 39.9 | Very obese |
Over 40 | Morbidly obese |
Results
Remember BMI is only a guide and even though a BMI may indicate a person is overweight, other factors must be taken into account.
For example, heavily built or muscular people may have a high BMI but this does not necessarily mean that they are overweight or obese.
